Whats Going On? Oct 2011

Welcome to the latest installment of my increasingly strange but still infrequent newsletter.

Nothing to Fear...

There is a truth which states that ‘Life goes on’. And it does, in one form or another. But more importantly, where there is life there is hope. Hope for a better future, hope for a more enjoyable present. Hope of healing the past.

For many, life is difficult. But I don’t know whether it’s any more difficult than it has ever been. It is certainly differently difficult. This is not to diminish the problems we face. Far from it in fact, it shows that we are already far more capable than we think we are.

Counting the time...

So far as I am concerned, numbers hold the secret to life, so let’s look at what numbers, their patterns and their cycles tell us about our current times.

First, 2011 reduces down to 4 – the number which draws our attention to our foundations. It is always a challenging number, forcing us to fix what is broken and strengthen what is weak – in our own lives as well as nationally and globally. It is the number of feeling stuck, seeing obstacles rather than solutions, getting bogged down and being worn out. This is certainly how a lot of people feel!

But this is also Year 1 of the decade of the 10’s. This double dose of 1-ness is a sign of new beginnings and fresh starts. The old no longer serves us and the bright and fresh comes to drive out the worn and tired. We can activate this in our own lives in whatever way we choose – so long as it means new beginnings and fresh starts, but it is also a generational, maybe even epoch making shift in how we live. The old ways have gone and they will never return.

This is also year 11 of the new century. 11 is a number of heightened emotions and wild swings of behaviour. Look around the world at the waves of euphoria and despondency that have swept people along in their wake. Look at the financial markets – wild up and down swings on an almost daily basis. 11 is a master energy and it warns us against over-reaction and intolerance. It is incumbent on us all to count to ten before we scream this year.

And most significant of all, we are in the early years of the new millennium. Everything now starts with a 2 – the number of emotions, feelings, balance and femininity. The future is most definitely female, whether we like it or not. We will find out whether this female future will be loving, compassionate, inclusive and supportive or nannying, controlling, bitter and repressed. I guess the outcome is up to us.

Numbers tell us everything we need to know, but you may conclude that it is way too simple an analysis to reduce the complexity of human life down to a few digits. You are correct. Human life is unendingly varied and complicated, but every part of it is built on fundamentals. Numerology identifies these foundations, and no building can help but be affected by the foundations upon which it rests.

Todays Practice...

1911 all over again.

Time travel back one hundred years to 1911 and you would witness a strange world indeed. This was before Hitler, Nazis, World Wars, aircraft travel, and internet, but it was also post-Victorian and the very height of the British Empire. The USA had just emerged from the optimism of what was dubbed ‘This Fabulous Century’ and had moved into a period of unrest and disenchantment. Sound familiar?

This was the time of the Suffragette Movement, the new technology of motion pictures and early air travel. Many new innovations are being born right now in 2011.

So, let’s take a trip to meet our ancestors. Write down the date and month of your birth next to the year 1911. Mine was 28th October, so I will write 28 October 1911. You will write something different.

Now focus. Forget everything else in your life, go into as deep a meditation as possible, but focus on the date you have written down. These are your co-ordinates; this is where you are time-travelling to. Nothing else matters. GO THERE!

Let me know what happens. Whatever you experience, even the slightest of faint impressions, is significant. Write it down. Try it again. These things take practice.

I meet all sorts of people, all the time. What interests me most are people that have found ‘their thing’. Here’s one of them:

Tali Goodwin

Tali is one half of Tarot Professionals (alongside Marcus Katz) and is currently on the scent of the A.E.Waite's 'Second Tarot'. As many of you will know, the Rider Waite Tarot deck set the Tarot tone, on its release in 1910, for much of what has followed.

What is less known is that Waite was involved in a second project, which has never, until now, seen wider public gaze.For Tarot enthusiasts this is a development of real historical significance, which might even change how the Tarot itself is viewed. It's very exciting!

Returning to the numbers theme, I am looking forward to the upcoming 11-11-11 date. One hundred years since the last occurence, it is a significiant date that will be marked with a special evening talk and day workshop at Hawkwood College, Stroud:

CELEBRATE 11-11-11. Step Through The Pillars of Wisdom.

Think of 11 as two ones, two columns, two pillars of wisdom. Look at 11 as a joining of the subjective and objective, the recognition of rich and poor, the empowerment of male and female, young and old, black and white, and the gathering of knowledge and experience from within and without. These, and many others, are the challenges the '11' issues to us.
