In
any quest for skill and knowledge, the natural and simple phenomenon of
Intuition ought not to be overlooked.

You can even split the word up and see
that it suggests the ability to teach oneself and gain knowledge from within
oneself – 'in-tuition'.
First
steps into the psychic and mystical world can be confusing. There are many stories
and beliefs spread by those already involved and seemingly skilled in the
field. Mediums, psychics, healers and
shamanic practitioners offer a mind-spinning series of versions of what they
believe being ‘psychic’ means.
The
reality however is that no two individuals have quite the same two experiences,
and this is where the development of your Intuition helps. It is a totally
personal experience. Intuition
is a wide term for a host of abilities where information seems to come ‘out of
nowhere’. Many would say that we are
just accessing unconscious (or subconscious or even super conscious) knowledge.
But surely there’s more to it than that? Intuition
seems to almost be a natural occurring trait within us humans, and maybe within
all living things. We humans need make no links to the supernatural or
paranormal, nor do we need to carry the baggage of religious or humanistic
beliefs. This potentially makes the use
of Intuition much more powerful than at first it seems, as it gives us great
scope to investigate and experiment with our human potential.
The
Shorter Oxford English Dictionary defines Intuition as ‘Immediate
apprehension by the mind without the intervention of reasoning’. This
precisely identifies our ability to find solutions to problems, answers to
questions, insight into situations, understanding of events and knowledge of
people – without any rational or mental process. One might even say that to be
Intuitive one must simply ‘stop thinking.’
However,
this analysis does not do complete justice to a range of much wider and far deeper
forms of ‘insight’ that are possible, once we have trained our Intuition. Sensitivity and Awareness can be developed and directed
to a variety of ends. First, when we watch the action of our Intuition, we see
how accurate it really is. Then we can begin to develop, hone and sharpen it,
observing when it works and when it does not.
This takes time and effort, but the reward is to gain relevant and
incontrovertible evidence that our Intuition is real and effective. Then we can
trust it, which enables it to really take flight and lead us on a fantastic journey
of discovery. But
can anyone do this? The good news is that even those of us that are as intuitive
as a brick can take comfort from the fact that you can develop your Intuition. As the old Chinese proverb says
“The World is
full of magical things waiting for our wits to sharpen”.
Intuitive
insights can take many forms. They can
be direct and literal but equally they can be symbolic or vague impressions
that need more analysis. Through
training we can learn how to distinguish between the many fleeting impressions
and senses that we encounter and isolate what is meaningful to us.
