Mainstream futurologists are often accused of optimism bias.
They have confidence and blind faith in the continual and ever lasting
progress of mankind and advancement of the human condition. In the long
term this must be true if Life is to continue, however, the night
before the dawn may well be very dark. And so it needs to be.
We are
part of nature, not separate from it, and nature consists of duality -
night and day, dark and light, death and birth, pain and joy. This is a
fact of life that in recent times mankind has gone to great lengths to
look away from. But no longer.
As emergencies and suffering on Planet
Earth grow and grow, we will have no choice but to recognise the
contrariness of our own natures. We will see that good people do bad
things, regularly and persistently. That is what the awakening of
humankind will be mostly concerned with. Awakening to the positive and
negative within all of us, for only when we see the negative can we do
something to take control of it of. Pretending the problem belongs to
someone else, or worse still, doesn't exist at all, is the ultimate ignorance.
It is the greatest achievement of our Dark Side to persuade us that no such thing exists.
This illusion, if not addressed, will cost us all dear.
