The
age of mass transportation - the plane, the bus, the tram - will die
when the fundamental individuality of people is finally recognised. The need for
individuals to get about in their physical body, free of the
constraints of others timetables and rules, will be intrinsic to the
new world that is coming.
Over the last century, a tremendous amount of
money has been made by the oil industry and the motor industry, yet if you think about it the operation of a motorcar is
a dirty, noisy, complex and not to mention expensive business. But need
it be so?
Personal transportation ought be abundant.
The tools and maybe even the fuels with which we can transport our physical bodies
around this planet ought to be freely or very cheaply available.
The process will not to be complex - in fact it may be so blindly
obvious that we cannot see it - but it should be available to everyone,
and it would put the motor and oil industry out of business tomorrow.
Environment saved, paradigm shift completed!
The work has begun, but there will be roadblocks along the way, but the ongoing grim financial state of GM, Ford and Chrysler has a silver lining. These companies have fought against
progress for decades. Yes, they make faster and more comfortable cars,
but the basic petrol combustion engine model has remained largely
undeveloped. These companies are now desperate, and so are governments, so anything becomes
possible.
Experimental vehicles such as the Sinclair C5, the Segway, and the Winglet are only really playing with the possibilities. The Toyota i-Real
is the nearest thing we currently have to realisation of the dream. So
what if it looks a bit alien? Mass uptake of these vehicles will make
huge strides toward solving the global warming problem, and deliver
freedom for countless individuals - what's holding you back? And it's
not a device to replace walking. A better device than legs hasn't yet
be invented.
